The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Monday organised a two-day fair to sensitise rural dwellers in Katsina State to the importance of using mobile banking.
Alhaji Hassan Adamu, the CBN Branch Controller in Katsina State, said in Katsina that the fair provided opportunities for people to know the activities of the bank and their rights with the financial institutions.
The controller said that the theme of the programme was ‘’protecting financial stability and economic development in Nigeria’’.
Adamu said that the goal was to extend the message down to the grassroots people, who were important stakeholders in the implementation of the CBN initiatives.
He said that successful implementation of the initiative would assist to enhance economic growth and development by reducing high cost of banking services and boost financial literacy and inclusion.
Adamu announced that the apex bank had introduced some policies like Clean Note Policy, Financial Inclusion, Bank Verification Number and Consumer Protection Management.
According to him, the policies are aimed at assisting the country to attain a balance of trade and payments and reduce unemployment and enhance the living condition of the citizens.
A Director, Corporate Communications Department of the branch, Hajia Umma Dutse, said the fair gave people the opportunity to get easy access to credit facilities.
Dutse said that the participants would be exposed to practical demonstrations on the use of mobile phones and other alternative channels to carry out financial transactions.
She added that participants would also know how to use financial services responsibly and prudently, and protect themselves from the risk inherent in the financial system.
The CBN Director, Corporate Communications, Alhaji Ibrahim Muazu, said that the bank would continue to visit all the nooks and crannies of the country until Nigerians accepted mobile banking system.
