3-year-old Aylan Kurdi together with his 5-year-old brother Ghalib and mother Rehan hoped for a lucky escape from their country, Syria, in attempt to start a new life somewhere they could feel safe. On their way to sanctuary in Europe they had to get into the Mediterranean Sea. Tragically, the water refused to let them out alive — on the 2nd of September the three poor refugees were found dead off the Turkish coast. Right away the photograph of the passed away 3-year-old boy lying on sand by the sea emerged in media and evoked an indignation outbreak all over the world.

The Wall Street Journal underlined that «the images of the toddler’s lifeless body on a Turkish beach have reverberated across the globe, stirring public outrage and embarrassing political leaders as far away as Canada, where authorities had rejected an asylum application from the boy’s relatives.»
In response to this tragedy, in the grief for innocent little children and their mother, artists around the world started to create powerful artworks focusing on the photo of Aylan and sending out a clear message that not a single child should die because of powers that be choose to stay aloof.
