The Lagos
State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Sunday stormed houses of worship
in Lagos metropolis with the aim of opening the hearts of the congregation to
the traffic rules and regulations, promote road orderliness and safety with
focus on voluntary compliance by motorists in order to drive home government
message on zero tolerance for traffic indiscipline and lawlessness.
The enlightenment
campaign tagged operation “Open Hearts” according to the General Manager Bashir
Braimah was to appeal to the feelings and passion of the worshipers who sees their
spiritual leaders as role models in decision making and opinion formation. Adding
that since the places of worship enjoys the patronage of large congregation
constituting of car owners, therefore it is imperative to carry them along in
traffic management in the state for the desired result.
The General
Manager observed that recent perennial traffic gridlocks in the state are occasioned
by act of indiscipline amongst the motorists and therefore seek the support of
highly revered and esteemed spiritual leaders to lend their voices to the vision
and mission of LASTMA and encourage attitudinal change amongst the congregation
who are motorists not to flout the road traffic with impunity as such will have
dare consequence on traffic flow and sanity on the road.
According to
Braimah traffic free Lagos is a collective responsibility of all and
called on
the congregations to spread the gospel of traffic law among their
friends, neighbors, spouses and relatives so as to enhance the economic
growth and
sustain the mega city status of the state.
The visit
took the management of LASTMA to Redeemed Church at Ogudu, NASFAT Alausa
Secretariat Mosque and Christ the Light Chapel Alausa was in continuation of
the current efforts of the agency and state government to drum up support and
cooperation of motorists and members of the public for the new approach of
enforcing traffic law in Lagos state.
