LASTMA TAKES TRAFFIC CAMPAIGN TO RELIGIOUS HOMES

The management of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in its determination to ensure free flow of traffic, promote road orderliness and safety with focus on voluntary compliance with traffic rules and regulation by motorists has decided to reach out to religious institutions for support in driving home the message of the government on zero tolerance for traffic indiscipline and lawlessness.
The General Manager of the agency, Mr Bashir Braimah revealed this in his office at Oshodi that the current government being a responsible and responsive government with a strong belief in maximum enlightenment with minimum enforcement, agency recognizes the important roles of religious leaders in the formation of opinions, advises and counselling of their followers. He added that since the places of worship enjoy the patronage of large congregation comprising of car owners, and therefore it is imperative to carry them along in traffic management in the state for the desired result.
Braimah observed that enlightenment campaign is a continuous one, as violation of traffic law is the major cause of the current accidents and chaotic traffic situation on our roads, thereby making traffic control and management to be challenging for LASTMA officials. In such situations officers are subjected to rigorous physical and emotional stress in their efforts to ensure sanity on the roads, remove impediments and clear backlog.
To this end, The agency would on Sunday embark on “Operation Open Hearts” with visitation to Christian congregation at their Sunday service and Muslim congregation at various prayer groups in the state in order to  ensure safety of lives, free flow of traffic and harmonious working relationship between the agency and its publics.
