Reports from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, have it that Nigerian troops are in battle with Boko Haram fighters.
According to Premium Times, the gunmen were in a serious shoot-out with soldiers in Aladuwari village,
It was gathered that the fighters arrived the area at about 6 pm before opening fire on the innocent villagers.
Two suicide bombers were also said to have detonated explosives near FOMWAN school in Jiddari area of Maiduguri but it is yet to be ascertained how many people lost their lives from the attacks.
Sahara Reporters has gathered that scores of civilians have been confirmed dead in a gun battle between Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members and the terrorists who attempted to overrun Maiduguri this evening.
A commander of the task force in Maiduguri told SaharaReporters that some terrorists around Jidari Polo area of the capital were killed during the gun battle, adding: “They attacked Polo area in Maiduguri. In fact we are chasing them now and some of them were killed.”
Mohammed Kolo, who resides in the area, said they were only about 100 meters away from him when they opened up fire while Bitrus Yohana, another resident of the area, said: “We were confused, as I am speaking with you our doors are opened. We didn’t remember to close it as a result of loud explosions, many people were killed because of the shooting.”
This news is coming as a sharp contrast to reports which surfaced recently that the Nigerian troops have technically defeated the insurgents.
