Police Officer Shoots Himself In Apparent Suicide In Niigata, Japan

In an apparent suicide a 23-year-old officer had shot himself at a police box in Niigata Prefecture on the Sea of Japan coast today.

Colleagues found the officer bleeding from the head with a handgun at his feet in a locked bathroom in the police box in the city of Myoko around 10:40 a.m. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.


The officer began work with two colleagues at the police box at 9 a.m. His fellow officers heard a thud after he went upstairs and he was found shot in the right temple, authorities said, adding that there was no suicide note.
