Surgeon dad 'broken' as son, 24, dies after 'sinking to bottom' of family pool

The dad of a talented young man who drowned at his family's £3.5million mansion said his son swam two lengths before "sinking to the bottom".

Dominic Hamlyn, a University of Cambridge student, died after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest in an outdoor pool.

The 24-year-old's heartbroken father paid tribute to his "hero" son in a moving statement.

He described him as a "superb athlete" and a "beautiful boy" who had delivered a 15-minute speech at his brother's 21st birthday party just moments before he died.

"There is no mystery, there were no drugs," Peter Hamlyn said.

"He was swimming in his swimming trunks, almost sober. He had just spoken for 15 minutes without notes.
