Apple Announces M1, First Apple Silicon Chip For MacsApple has announced its first Arm-based laptops, the MacBook Air, Mac mini and Macbook Pro, and, with that, it also announced its family of Arm-based Apple Silicon chips.

During Apple’s “One More Thing” virtual event that held on November 10, Apple announced the first Apple Silicon processor for the Mac, called the M1.

Apple said;

We’ve been making Apple Silicon for more than a decade. It’s at the heart of iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch – and now we want to bring it to the Mac, so the Mac can take a huge leap forward with the incredible performance, custom technologies and industry-leading power efficiency of Apple Silicon.

M1 has an eight-core CPU, with four high-performance cores. Apple described it as “the world’s fastest CPU core”. The other four high-efficiency cores use one-tenth of the power, helping M1 deliver the best CPU performance per watt.

The M1 also features integrated graphics with an eight-core GPUIn fact, Apple said the M1 has “the world’s fastest integrated graphics”.

The M1 chip contains a six-core neural engine that can process 11 trillion operations per second, as well as Apple’s Secure Enclave. It is built on the same five-nanometer process as Apple’s A14 chip for iOS devices, and the M1 supports Thunderbolt and USB 4.
