Former Barcelona and Cameroon star player, Samuel Eto’o, has been involved in a car accident in his home country, Cameroon, sustaining a head injury on Sunday.
The 39-year old was traveling home from a family wedding celebration when his car was struck by a public bus on the Nkongsamba-Douala Road on Sunday morning, November 8.
He reportedly suffered a head injury and was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.
Cameroonian journalist, Martin Camus tweeted a picture of Eto’o‘s damaged vehicle alongside the caption;
The crushed car Samuel Eto’o was in. I can confirm that he is fine, we spoke again. Doctors taking care of additional examinations.
France Football also confirmed that the former captain of Cameroon’s senior national team will undergo further examinations at the hospital where he’s currently hospitalized.
Eto’o is revered as one of the most accomplished footballers to ever emerge from Africa.
The former player, who retired from football a year ago, after a successful 22-year career in which he played for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea among many others.
During his player career, he won multiple league titles, as well as three Champions League trophies.
Eto’o is also an Olympic gold medallist and he won the African Cup of Nations with Cameroon in 2000 and 2002.
He remains Cameroon’s all-time highest goalscorer with 56 strikes to his name in more than 100 appearances for the Indomitable Lions team.
