A 28-year-old Nigerian man has been arrested in Delhi for allegedly duping a man of over Rs 5 lakh (US$6,908, N2,633,649) through social media platform, Facebook.
The accused, Onuorah Donatus Jideoffor was arrested at Mohan Garden on Wednesday, November 11, in a joint action by Goa Crime Branch and Delhi Police.
It was gathered that he duped the victim on the pretext of paying Customs charges for a ‘gift’ he was getting for the victim.
The accused had befriended the victim on Facebook using a fictitious name Steve Jose and promised to send him an expensive gift from abroad.
Thereafter the victim was asked to deposit Rs 5.16 lakhs in fictitious accounts used by fraudsters.
A complaint regarding this was lodged on November 6, following which an investigation was carried out by a Delhi Police Crime Branch team, led by Inspector Filomena Costa and Sub-inspector Nitin Halankar.
