Three policemen have reportedly drowned while on their way to Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa state to perform assigned duties in the bye-election.
They were said to have drowned after the speedboat in which they were travelling in capsized.
The incident was said to have occurred on the eve of the Saturday senatorial bye-elections in Bayelsa Central and West.

Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the accident.
He stated;
The boat capsized on their way to Oporoma, headquarters of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
Butswat, however, said the number of casualties was yet to be ascertained.
