Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday, December 30 announced 1,016 new coronavirus cases, 1,385 successfully treated patients and 11 casualties.
The health agency made the announcement via its Twitter page with the new cases recorded in 20 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The breakdown of the new cases are as follows; Lagos-434, FCT-155, Plateau-94, Kaduna-56, Rivers-56, Oyo-30, Nasarawa-27, Zamfara-25, Abia-22, Enugu-18, Kano-18, Bayelsa-15, Edo-14, Ogun-11, Borno-10, Ebonyi-10, Jigawa-7, Anambra-4, Delta-3, Niger-3 and Osun-3.

With the new toll, the total number of cases in the country has now increased from 85,560 to 86,576 while figures of discharged patients moved from 71,937 to 73,322.
A total of 1,278 deaths have now been recorded thus far in Africa’s most populous country as 11 new deaths was reported yesterday.
Our discharges today include 537 community recoveries in FCT, 459 in Lagos State and 78 in Plateau State managed in line with guidelines.

In other news, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said January 2021 will be a tough month for Nigeria as the number of persons infected with the novel coronavirus in the country is expected to rise, following the disregard of health protocols during the festive period.
Director-General of NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu made this known while speaking at the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 yesterday.
He noted that the nation’s health system is struggling to cope with the increasing number of coronavirus infections daily, adding that a spike in toll in January is imminent.
According to Ihekweazu, the expected surge in infections is due to the disregard of preventive protocols by Nigerians in the last few months, particularly during the yuletide period.
