A 43-year-old post-graduate student, Sunday Asefon has emerged president of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) after the just-concluded convention marred with violence.
The outgoing president, who was recently suspended, Danielson Bamidele Akpan, held on to the office for over two years refusing to hand over power.
Asefon, a former coordinator of NANS Zone D, has now been elected President of the student union body.

However, the development has sparked outrage among many Nigerians on Twitter, who wondered why a young person wasn’t elected to lead the student body, instead of an elderly man.
See some reactions below;
Asefon, 43, President NANS was NANS Coordinator Zone D in 2013 while a student of Ekiti State University, EKSU.
2020, he is still a student of EKSU.
7 years after!

How is a 43 years old man the President of NANS? What does a civil servant & PGD student know about the pains of the average Nigerian student?

If a 43yrs old man can Contest and win NANS President, I’m sorry to say Nigerian Youths are not ready to take over Leadership. NYCN & NANS are the only powerful youths leading associations. When are we going to take over if our youths keep disappointing us like this?#EndSARS

NANS that is filled with older people, you guys want that same body to fight for students right? Lmao. In any sane country, I don’t think someone in his early 40 should still be fighting for a post in student union, but what do I know? This is Nigeria, anything can happen.

NANS is not a presentative of Nigerian student.. Imagine a 43 years old man headed NANS. When my dad was 42 my elder brother was in his second year in the university. You can imagine what the union has turned into
