Notorious bandit leader, Auwalun Daudawa, has been killed, an official of Zamfara State Government says.
He was the mastermind behind the abduction of over 300 students of Government Science Secondary School Kankara, Katsina state in December.
Two months later after the release of the students, the mastermind of the operation appeared in Gusau, capital of Zamfara, along with five of his men where he announced his repentance and handed over weapons to the police.
Daudawa laid down his arms and accepted Governor Bello Matawalle’s peace initiative on February 8.

However on Friday, it was reported that Daudawa returned to the forest and his old ways after he vacated his new abode in Damba, on the outskirts of Gusau.
Ibrahim Zauma, a media aide to the governor of the state, broke the news late Friday via his Twitter page, saying;
Just in: Barely nine days after Auwalun Daudawa returned to the jungle after swearing oath on the Glorious Quran never to go back to banditry, he met his waterloo! He was killed while trying to rustle.

Confirming his killing to newsmen, the Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs in Zamfara State, Abubakar Dauran said Daudawa left Gusau day two days ago.
He stated;
After he swore by the Qur’an never to go back to his old ways, we heard that he went back under the guise of going to attend wedding of his relatives but he instead resumed his illegal activities.
We heard that he killed someone and attempted to rustle his cattle but the other people in the forest rose up to him and killed him in the process.
The bandit leader reportedly told some people that he was going to attend one of his relatives’ wedding.
However, Daudawa rustled over 100 cows and killed the herdsman in charge, the Commissioner said. In retaliation, some members of another gang organised and killed him.
He in February surrendered his weapons under an amnesty programme by the Zamfara State Government.
Daudawa surrendered 20 AK-47 rifles, 20 Magazines, one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), one Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) and several ammunitions to the Zamfara State government on the day he repented with five of his comrades.
In an interview with Daily Trust, he recounted how he picked up arms, restating that he has forsaken his past.
Daudawa stated;
I have repented and submitted myself. I don’t want to look back at all.If some of us at some point came out to renounce violence and go back and continue their old ways, that is their own choice.
If someone repents but has arms in the bush, you know it cannot be a sincere one. In my case I carried myself and the arms I had and turned myself in, what should I go back and do? If I do anything Allah sees it.
However, against his words, Mr Daudawa went back to the trenches.
