Yoruba Nation Global Directorate (YNGD) has announced the release of Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo better known as Sunday Igboho, following his arrest in Benin Republic on Monday night.

YNGD made this known in a statement released on Tuesday, July 20 as shared by popular commentator on Nigerian and international affairs, Kayode Ogundamisi.

The Directorate expressed its appreciation to the government and people of Benin Republic for their intervention in the release of the human rights activist.
In the statement by YNGD Director, Princess Adeola Atayero Olamijulo, she expressed gratitude to all those whose prayers, called and participated in the release of the activist.

She thanked all the Beninese lawyers in Cotonou who promptly stepped into the matter for their support, adding that; “Chief Adeyemo is on his way to his destination”.
Igboho was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic on Monday night while attempting to flee to Germany after he was declared wanted.

Recall that Department of State Services (DSS) raided the residence of Igboho in Ibadan, Oyo state on July 1, killing two people, arresting 12 aides but Igboho escaped.
Igboho had planned a ”Yoruba nation rally” in Lagos two days before the raid. The rally was initially suspended but later held with a large number of Yoruba nation agitators demanding for freedom.

Afterwards, DSS declared Igboho wanted, alleging that he was stockpiling weapons and ammunitions.
DSS Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunnaya, had advised Igboho to turn himself in to the nearest security.

Sunday Igboho has been on the run since the raid and federal government at some point claimed he was working at getting a new passport to flee the country for Germany.
Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) also placed a notice for his arrest across Nigerian borders.
