
Latifat Tijani has on Thursday, August 26 won the first gold medal for Nigeria at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
Tijani won a gold medal at Brazzaville 2015 Africa Games and silver medal at Rio 2016 Paralympics.
She took part in the women’s 45kg powerlifting on Thursday, August 26, 2021, and came top place by defeating China’s Zhe Cui to lift 107kg.

Chinese powerlifter Cui Zhe was going to attempt 112kg before Justyna Kozdryk of Poland overtook her.
However, Latifat Tijani came out victorious ahead of her peers with a lift of 107kg.
