The Labour Party’s Peter Obi has been given three weeks by the Presidential Election Petition Court, or PEPC, to submit their joint petition contesting the presidential election on February 25.

The petition’s target, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was also given a five-day deadline by the court to defend his election victory alongside the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Through his legal representative, Professor Awa Kalu SAN, Obi had asked for seven weeks to prove their claims on the contested election that produced Tinubu.

Chairman of the Court, Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, issued the order on Tuesday while presenting the pre-hearing sessions report of the Court.

Among others, Justice Tsammani ordered that Obi must open his petition for hearing on May 30 and end same on June 23.

The Court claimed that the short window of time in which the petition must be resolved led to its judgement.

Obi, who was present to observe the proceedings, requested permission from the court to leave as soon as the order of the Court was announced, explaining that they would be getting ready for the full-blown hearing of the petition.
