Lights, camera, action! Buckle up, folks, because the real soap opera isn’t on TV, it’s playing out in the real-life telenovela that is Emeka Ike’s family feud. Hold onto your popcorn, because things are about to get spicier than a plate of jollof rice with extra habaneros.
First, let’s rewind. Emeka, Nollywood’s resident eye-bulger and muscle-flexer, and his ex-wife, the enigmatic Suzanne, were once the picture of marital bliss. Think Romeo and Juliet, but with more lawyers and less poison. But alas, love soured faster than unrefrigerated ogbono soup, and the couple went their separate ways, leaving a trail of accusations wider than the Nile River.
The couple’s marriage ended in 2015 when Suzanne filed for divorce, citing claims of physical and verbal abuse throughout their relationship. In March 2017, a Customary Court in Lagos Island, South-west Nigeria, dissolved their 14-year-old marriage. The couple have four children together.
Now, fasten your seatbelts for the latest twist in this domestic drama.
During an interview on ChannelsTV “Rubbing Minds,” Emeka Ike said his marital issues got him depressed for a very long time.
Speaking earlier during the interview, he stated that his ex-wife made him lose access to his kids and properties.
He said, “I didn’t come on the internet space to clarify the allegations against me because it’s difficult to clarify because the same people that were bullying me on the internet, they were still there. They are gonna say, ‘Don’t mind him. He is still missing her. Move on.’
“And if you’re not prepared to handle it, you will be crushed. My secondary school, St. Nicholas College, on CMD road, Magodo, was shut down. Over N480 million investment that year was shut down. And all I heard was constant battery. I was like, ‘I don’t beat this lady. What’s going on? Babe, what’s going on? They said I beat you, do I?’
“And she [my ex-wife] said, ‘No. But you’re a star, you know, they can always manipulate things and all that.’ So, I was gullible until I discovered that she was actually the one behind all this whole thing. Some ladies are too desperate for marriage legally. And she actually told me one time that I am not the marriage type. And I didn’t understand it. So, the young men need to know that there are plenty ladies that are not the marriage type lately.”
Suzanne Responds
Now, Susanne ain’t no shrinking violet. She fired back with a rebuttal hotter than a pepper soup competition in August, setting the record straight on an interview with Chude Jideonwo. Turns out, her version of events paints Emeka as a charmer with the memory of a goldfish, conveniently forgetting key details that, well, let’s just say wouldn’t exactly make him Nollywood’s Bachelor of the Year.
She said, “I woke, and my sister sent me a message that he( Emeka) is at it again. Going into the message, it was the same for the past 10 years. So I decided that I needed to put an end to this because I felt like I ran out of an abusive relationship, but I am still under abuse. In the past 10 years, I have tried to move on with my life and build my life from scratch.”
“This person ( Emeka Ike) keeps going to the media space to bash and slander me. He cooks up lies and just says things that never existed or something he has built up. I just decided that it’s time to speak up. What I have been through is something I will never wish anyone, but I will never wish the devil himself.”
So, what’s the takeaway from this Nollywood-worthy family feud? Well, for one, it’s a stark reminder that even in the glitz and glamour of the film industry, things can get messy. And two, it’s proof that sometimes, the real drama isn’t on the screen, it’s happening right under our noses.
So, grab your popcorn, settle in, and enjoy the show. Because in the grand theatre of life, Emeka Ike and his ex-wife are definitely front-row material. Just remember, folks, this is real life, not a movie. So, let’s keep the popcorn throwing to a minimum and the empathy levels to a maximum.
