Popular US rapper, Bobby Shmurda, who has been in prison since 2014, will be released on Tuesday, February 23.
The 26-year-old rapper, whose given name is Ackquille Jean Pollard, has been serving time for over 6 years after pleading guilty to conspiracy and weapons possession.
Prosecutors said he was part of an East Flatbush–based gang, GS9, which engaged in a “protracted turf battle with multiple other rivals,” from January 2013 to October 2014. Twenty-one people were charged in the indictment.
He was sentenced to seven years in prison after accepting a deal to plead guilty to 4th-degreeconspiracy and 2nd-degree criminal weapons possession.
In addition to his sentence, Shmurda was later sentenced to four years in prison in 2017 for promoting prison contraband, with the four years served concurrently with his original sentence.

Due to this, Shmurda was denied parole in September 2020, as part of disciplinary actions taken against him while he was incarcerated. The rapper was ordered then to serve his maximum sentence till December 11, 2021.
Department of Corrections has now reviewed his case and Shmurda’s credit for good institutional behavior was restored, making him eligible for conditional release as of February 23, barring any further incidents, with the remainder of his sentence to be served on parole.
According to TMZ, Shmurda’s prison release on Tuesday will be low key. His mother, Leslie Pollard said the rapper will first enjoy an intimate dinner with his family, chill and then devote his time to making music which has always been his passion.
Before his arrest at a Manhattan recording studio in 2014, Shmurda was enjoying a viral ascent in hip-hop thanks to a hit single ‘Hot Boy‘ and a meme originating on the social media app Vine that showed him throwing his hat in the air and doing his trademark “Shmoney Dance“.
The move was mimicked by Beyonce and in National Football League (NFL) touchdown dances, which help send “Hot Boy” to No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The rapper will however be on parole till 2026.
