Many Nigerians have taken to social media on Thursday to mourn a Twitter influencer simply identified as Tunde, who allegedly died by suicide.
According to friends and colleagues on Twitter, the young man also known as Tuneri took his life on Wednesday, leaving behind his girlfriend, Tola and family members.
His death comes a day after he took to Twitter to reveal that he was seriously in need of money.
I need money like mad, Jesus
— Tunde (@Tuneri__) March 9, 2021
While mourning him, Tunde’s passing led to a conversation about reaching out to friends in their time of needs as many Twitter users claimed Tunde’s tweet about money was a cry for help but no one reached out.
On the other hand, some other Twitter users advised depressed individuals to speak up about their plight and seek medical help.

The death of Tuneri is just another day to put this here again… How guys really really need to start uplifting each other because we are all we’ve got!!! I mean how Tunde tweeted he needed money yet no help came through. Sad!

Honestly for a guy to survive this period, he needs to be able to open up to either his parents, his friends or his woman, sadly nobody listens until they can’t take it anymore and go.
RIP Tunde.— Mr. Marshall (@Neo_Marshall) March 11, 2021
Men silently go thru hell or sometimes we just talk about it like it’s nothing. He just said he needed money like mad. Who’d thought he was gonna commit suicide after that? This is so so sad. RIP Tunde @Tuneri__ May God forgive your sins.

In 2017 I almost took my own life, tunde was one of the people that checked on me.
2021, he’s dead!
Sigh! I wish he could’ve used the strength he gave me on that day.— Orgasm.NG |#EndSars (@orgasmdotng) March 11, 2021
Going through tunde’s TL, while he was in need badly, he was still praying and encouraging other people in the same situation. Rest well tunde.

Tunde took his life out of depression, only God knows how long he has been trying to hold up! For a young man like him to fight and give up means he’s been holding up for a long time.
We always tell men to speak up but the question is * when they speak up who would listen???— Aqualady (@Aqualady6666) March 11, 2021
No offence bah but people are quite hypocritical. Dude killed himself because he needed money, I’m sure he has guys who could wrap up 100-200k for him or his close follower’s but no, it’s now that he’s dead, they are saying ‘Tunde No’
No what exactly.
Do better abeg.— Fejiro • Warri based chef • Extraordinaire (@chef_fej) March 11, 2021
Omo, seems Tunde was an amazing guy going by all the tributes
It’s not a time for think pieces
Let’s pray for his family and loved ones at this very difficult time.
Rest well big man

People only pretend to care when you are dead, no one pays attention when you need help.
RIP Tunde— ZEUS (@itzbasito) March 11, 2021
Rest In Peace Tunde, I pray your family is strong enough to bear the loss.
To anyone planning to commit suicide May God let you find just a reason to want to live and to anyone that’s happy I pray you be a source of happiness to many others .
Please spread love pic.twitter.com/z1fGY036IM

This is so heartbreaking. Men go through a lot of pain and unfortunately we internalize the struggles so we don’t bother others. We need to open up and hear each other out more often and help where we can.
Rest In Peace Tunde (Tuneri) and may God have mercy on your soul.— DaddyMØ (@therealdaddymo1) March 11, 2021
God will Punish anybody who knew what Tunde was going through but didn’t help but now wants to give money to support his Funeral arrangement
I repeat, GOD PUNISH YOU

Alot of guys are going through hell.
Dear men, it is your responsibility to check up on your male friends & acquaintances. It’s not only women that you check up on. Men, also make things easier by opening up to your friends (my table)
Suicide is never an option. RIP Tunde.

This Tunde case it’s a proof that even if someone it’s depressed again tomorrow and decide to ask for help.. The person would be ignored till death pic.twitter.com/ki4rW5VTca

Mental health is really important in a country like ours that breeds only bad news and omen
Depression is real and must not be made fun of.
Men are going through hell here but the society expects us to toughen it out.
Men also need helping
RIP to the dead. Rest in peace Tunde

It hurts worse when the person who passed on was a ball of good vibes. Tunde came across as a happy person without stress.
I can imagine how terrible the people that knew him personally are feeling right now. What a disaster.

May Tunde’s soul find eternal rest. And may God forgive him all his shortcomings.
And may all others who ended it, because they couldn’t take it anymore, find eternal peace and rest.
