A middle-aged man suspected to be a suicide bomber has on Tuesday, May 25 reportedly blown up himself after his explosive-laced vest detonated on his body in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
According to TheNation, the incident happened around 12noon on Tuesday opposite Campus 2 of Amaizu/Amangbala primary school in Afikpo LGA of the state.
A source told the publication;
He made an attempt at entering Amaizu/ Amangballa Primary School but was turned back by the school security since he couldn’t justify his reason for visiting. He immediately started running inside a nearby bush before a big bang was heard.
The source also said residents scampered for safety when the bomb exploded but reconvened at the scene of the incident a few minutes after only to meet the suspected suicide bomber lying dead in the pool of his own blood.
The resident who noted that the incident happened close to Eke Market Afikpo which is said to be the biggest market in the area hinted that there is tension and panic in the community.
The state Commissioner for Internal Security, Stanley Okoro, confirmed the incident but did not give further details about the incident as at the time of filing this report.
