Bashir Ahmad, personal assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media, has hinted at the defection of Bello Matawalle, governor of Zamfara state, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC).
He gave the hint in a Facebook post on Sunday, saying;
So Zamfara is back home! Welcome Matawalle.
As at the time of filing this report, Matawalle was yet to confirm his reported defection to APC, despite previous speculation of the defection from different quarters and the subsequent denial.
The reported defection comes few months after six PDP governors visited Matawalle to dissuade him from joining the ruling party.
The governors were Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Darius Ishaku of Taraba, Umar Fintiri of Adamawa, and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state.
The visit of the APC governors came after their PDP counterparts in a move to persuade Matawalle to join their party visited him.
Since November 2020, two governors – David Umahi of Ebonyi state and Ben Ayade of Rivers state – elected under the platform of PDP have joined the APC.
Amid this, some APC chieftains have been boasting that more PDP governors will join them.
