Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has called Professor Wole Soyinka “a father” through a tweet on Sunday.
Obi made this comment after a visit to the Nobel Laureate in Abeokuta.
This came after Obi reacted to Prof Wole Soyinka’s allegation that his supporters widely known as ‘Obidients’ are ‘fascists’.

Peter Obi said he was very sad there was such an exchange, maintaining that he respects Soyinka as a father.
He gave the response while fielding questions on Arise Televison’s Prime Time programme.
He said that people always mentioned as ‘Obidient’ are not entirely people who are with him, insisting that the opposition had also come into it.
However, Peter Obi maintained that young people have been deprived by supposedly a system that is meant to care for them.
Nonetheless, in his tweet after his latest visit, he said Prof Soyinka is a revered icon who has always struggled for a better Nigeria.
Peter Obi tweeted;
Today, I visited one of Nigeria’s most revered figures and an international literary icon, Prof Wole Soyinka. Prof Soyinka has been a father whom I hold in very high esteem for what he has achieved and stands for in the struggle for a better Nigeria.
His reputation as a fighter for justice and equity in our society has been legendary and we will NEVER ignore them. I had a very useful and enriching discussion about his aspirations for a better and greater Nigeria, and he shared a lot with me about his dream for a greater and more inclusive Nigeria. I reminded the Nobel laureate of the huge price he paid just before the outbreak of the civil war, fighting for the cause of the Igbos.
