With his single “Calm Down,” Rema has created music history by becoming the first artist to top the Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) chart. Before his debut album “Raves & Roses,” the single was released in February 2022. It has since grown to be one of the most popular Afrobeats exports in history.
This isn’t the first time ‘Calm Down’ has set records, either. Earlier this year, it topped the Indian Music Industry Chart, and it also holds the title of the highest charting African song on the Billboard Hot 100, with a number 6 entry.
Even in Europe, many have taken notice of Rema’s accomplishment. Plaques for the ‘Calm Down’ remix have been awarded all around the continent, including a Diamond plaque in France and plaques in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Spain. Additionally, the song has received platinum awards in the UK and the US.
With over 2 billion plays across all platforms, “Calm Down” has shattered records as the most-watched Afrobeats song in Nigeria on YouTube.
