The authorities in all federal institutions of higher learning have been ordered by President Bola Tinubu to avoid arbitrary increases in various fees payable and, whenever feasible, postpone additional increases so that parents and students don’t have too many difficulties.
He also gave his approval for the nation’s colleges of education, polytechnics, and universities to provide transportation to their student bodies.

This information was provided in a statement that Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, signed on Monday and was captioned “FG ready to provide buses for higher education students, removes restrictions on students’ loans.”
Alake said this was in line with the President’s desire to “see that students can access their campuses without much difficulty as a result of higher transportation costs.”
During the past week, the ppresidency clarified that federal universities in the country remain tuition-free.
Some federal universities and unity schools recently announced a hike in school fees for freshers and returning students.
The development led to an uproar on social media platforms, amid the ballooning cost of living and soaring inflation caused by some of the federal government’s recent economic policies.
In a statement on Wednesday, Dele Alake, special adviser on special duties, communications and strategy to President Bola Tinubu, said the hike in school fees by some universities are “discretionary charges for hostel accommodation, registration, laboratory and other charges. They are not tuition fees”.
